Upholstery Fair 2010

It wasn't just upholsterers...Sheryl McAfee of "A Stitch in Time Design" in Indianapolis explores ways to expand her custom window treatment business by offering light upholstery. In this class we built and upholstered a simple slipseat - the kind you would find in a dining chair or side chair. Those corners are trickier than they look :) We then attached them to a hand built footstool frame to take home and use.

Little Girls Powder Room

It all started with a remodeled bathroom and some Amy Butler towels from Bed, Bath, and Beyond. Jen wanted her 2 little girls to have stools for their new vanity tables. She bought a couple of stools just the right size on Amazon, and some co-ordinating fabric and had them shipped to me...

The slipcovers are lined and washable. They tie on under the skirt to stay put.
Jen wanted the look of the patchwork slipcovered chair at the top of this blog.

Isn't this a great room? Love the pink! Another "trash to treasure" project for a very creative lady. She pulled these chairs off the curb years ago and stored them in her garage. She brought them to me for repair and new cushions. I think they turned out beautiful.

I got a chance to work on some very old, very cool dining chairs in an historic house in Lafayette. The furniture in this house is beautiful and original to the family going back many, many years. You can see variations in each of the 8 chairs, evidence of manufacture by hand. Here the chairs sit in a row - the first one is bigger than the rest and the fourth one down is taller. Cecilly calls them the papa chair and the kid chair. The original owners must have been looking in to see the new upholstery! See the "orbs" of light on papa chair and kid chair? Cecilly took several photos for me and this one shows the visitors...

Here I am in my furniture delivery clothes...not "dressed" for dinner in this fancy house!
